| | | Vikas News – May 2017 issue | | | | Dear Users, An opportunity to volunteer for Vikaspedia this summer… May is a month, where most of us, especially students, have time to do things that are our passion. Do you have time and passion to be useful to the community, sitting in the comfort of your homes? If yes, Vikaspedia provides you an opportunity to do so. This is how it is… As you must be aware, Vikaspedia is a collaborative knowledge sharing platform by the citizens and for the citizens. There are many ways by which people have been participating in Vikaspedia and thereby being useful to the community at large. To name a few – volunteers involved in content generation, review, digitization, translation, creation of posters on social topics, etc. We welcome each one of you to venture into participating in Vikaspedia, this May. Having said about participation for a social cause, in our section “Our Valued Associates”, we would like to introduce a legal-tech start-up run by a group of young law professionals called “Nyaaya”. It has the mission to demystify India’s laws. To fulfill this mission, the organization is building a free online repository of every central and state law. The laws are explained in simple English, with interactive guides and visualisations, to get people to the right legal answer. Vikaspedia with the association of Nyaaya is sure to be enriched with the much needed information on legal awareness for citizens. Under the section “Schemes for You”, we cover an interesting service that was recently launched by the Department of Justice, Government of India. Titled “Pro Bono legal service”, the initiative has been launched with a view to encourage meaningful contribution from the legal community for the benefit of poor and under-served clients. In the “Volunteer of the month” section, we share the experiences of a young software engineer who has been a valued volunteer in enriching the Urdu portal of Vikaspedia. The regular sections on Vacancies/Recruitment notices from government agencies and Domain-wise content updates also find place in this issue of Vikas News.
