(Saibal Bose)
Kolkata, March 17: The Kolkata Knight Riders was beaten by 65 runs by Chennai Super Kings at the Eden Gardens here on Tuesday. Dhoni plundered an unbeaten 66 off 33 balls, taking charge of the game after his side struggled to score initially. Dhoni’s blitz helped CSK reach 164 for three, a score which proved far too heavy for KKR. That KKR were bowled out for 109 in the last over was more due to the batsmen’s follies than good bowling. Wickets tumbled down for KKR right from first over when Brad Hodge went back without any run on the board. Wriddhiman Saha flourished briefly for 22, but that wasn’t enough. And when skipper Sourav Ganguly trudged back after scoring just 11 off 20 balls, the score was reading 55 for five. Earlier struggling at 96 for three at the 15th over CSK faced a Herculean task to reach 150. It needed a special effort. It came from Dhoni with some help from S Badrinath and wicketkeeper Saha, who gave him a reprieve early in his innings. The duo collected an amazing 68 runs from the last five overs, leaving the KKR attack in complete disarray. Badrinathscored 43 off 33 balls, as the pair scripted an unbeaten partnership of 109 runs in just 65 ballls. Dhoni’s blistering unbeaten 66 off just 33 balls was enough to win him the man of the match award. SNS
