1. Sunrisers Hyderabad win 2016 Indian Premier League title
David Warner led Sunrisers Hyderabad, defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by eight runs to clinch their maiden Indian Premier League title in a high-octane summit clash at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore.
Chasing the target of 209 runs, Bangalore got off to a flying start as Chris Gayle (76) and Skipper Virat Kohli (54) laid a perfect platform and forged 114 run partnership.
But after the fall of the openers, no other batsman could contribute much, as a result they only managed to score 200 runs for seven in 20 overs.
Earlier, propelled by skipper David Warner, Hyderabad scored 208 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Warner, who hit 69, finished second in run-getters' list with 848 runs.
Ben Cutting of Hyderabad was declared the Man of the Match for his all round performance. He had scored 39 runs and claimed two wickets.

The league, founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) member Lalit Modi in 2007, is scheduled over April and May of every year.
The title sponsor of the IPL in 2016 is Vivo Electronics, thus the league is officially known as the Vivo Indian Premier League.
Of the 13 teams to have competed since the league's first season, six have won the title at least once.
Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders have won twice, while Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers Hyderabad have won once.
On 14 June 2015, it was announced that two-time champions, Chennai Super Kings, and the inaugural season champions, Rajasthan Royals, would be suspended for two seasons following their role in a match-fixing and betting scandal.
Then, on 8 December 2015, following an auction, it was revealed that Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions would replace Chennai and Rajasthan for two seasons.

2. 29 May: International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers

The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers was observed on 29 May 2016 to honour the work of UN peacekeepers.
Significance of Day Honour the memory of the UN peacekeepers who have lost their lives in the cause of peace.
Pay tribute to all the men and women who have served and continue to serve in UN peacekeeping operations for their high level of professionalism, dedication and courage.
It was established to monitor the ceasefire after the Arab-Israeli War 1948, which was the first ever peacekeeping mission under the UN flag.
The day was designated on official request of the Ukrainian Peacekeepers Association and Government of Ukraine to the UNGA.
It was first celebrated in 2003.
Currently, more than 120,000 UN peacekeepers from 123 countries serve the cause of peace.
3. Delhi Assembly Dy Speaker Bandana Kumari resigns

Delhi Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker and AAP leader Bandana Kumari has tendered her resignation in the wake of defeat of the party's candidate in recent MCD by-polls.
A legislator from Shalimar Bagh, Kumari was unhappy with party nominating Anvika Mittal for a by-poll candidate.
She has submitted her resignation to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The norm is to send the resignation to the Speaker.
After winning five seats in the MCD by-poll, which was below the party's expectations, AAP had said that it will introspect over the results and also ask the MLAs the reasons for the defeat.

4. Lakshadweep becomes first UT to sign 24×7 ‘Power for All’ document

Lakshadweep became first Union Territory (UT) to sign 24x7 Power for All document.
The representative of Government of India and the Administration of Lakshadweep signed the document in presence of Shri P.K. Pujari, Secretary, Ministry of Power.
The document chalks out a plan to increase solar capacity of the region from 2.15 MW to 8.45 MW.
At present, 10 inhabited islands of Lakshadweep are being fed by diesel mostly.
The plan also envisions reduction of AT & C losses from current level of 2.1% to 6.7% till 2019 by increasing the collection efficiency up to 99 %.
The Government of India have taken a joint initiative with respective State Governments for preparation of State specific documents for providing 24x7 power supply to all households /homes, industrial & commercial consumers and adequate supply of power to Agricultural consumers as per state policy.
As on date, because of the joint efforts of State Governments and Government of India, 22 States have already signed the '24x7 Power For All' Documents.

5. Railways conduct trial run of high-speed Talgo train

Indian Railways on Sunday conducted the first ever trial run for high-speed Talgo trains of Spain on the Bareilly-to-Moradabad stretch in Uttar Pradesh.
The test train consisted of one locomotive fit for 180 kmph along with one VIP coach, one first class coach, one cafeteria coach and four second class coaches.
The second trialrun will be conducted on the Palwal-to-Mathura section of the North-Central Railway.
After the successful completion of this phase, timing trial of the much awaited high-speed train will be conducted.
The trials will be conducted with empty coaches and later with sand bags filling the passenger sitting spaces.
Average cost of manufacturing LHB coaches is around Rs 2.75 crore for each unit while the Talgo trains cost only Rs 1.7 crore per coach.
This will help railways save at least Rs 1 crore per coach besides saving upto 30 per cent of electricity as compared to the trains being used in India.
Last month, the Indian Railways flagged off country's first semi-high speed train, Gatimaan Express between Delhi and Agra which can run at a maximum speed of 160 kmph.

Talgo is a Madrid-based Spanish leading manufacturer of semi-high speed (160-250 kmph) and high-speed (350 kmph) passenger trains, which are energy-efficient.
Talgo trains are capable of hitting a maximum speed of 200 km per hour but trials will only be conducted at the speed of 150-160 km per hour.

6. Maneka Gandhi releases draft trafficking of persons bill

Union minister of Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi has released the Draft Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and Rehabilitation) Bill 2016 in New Delhi.
The new bill aims to check human trafficking by unifying several existing laws, meting out tougher punishment for repeat offenders and ensuring the protection and rehabilitation of victims.
At present, human trafficking cases are dealt with by a hodgepodge of laws and multiple agencies.
The draft bill will address these loopholes by bringing forced labour under the ambit of law and by working with the governments of Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar to curb trafficking.

7. PM flags off direct Kamakhya to Katra train

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has flagged off, the first ever direct train between Assam to Jammu & Kashmir.
This will connect the two pilgrim towns of Devi Peeth of Maa Kamakhya and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.
The train, which is first of its kind will cover a distance of 2605 km in about 53 hours passing the through the States of Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, UP, Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir.
The train, to begin with, will operate on the weekly basis and will help in not only promoting pilgrim tourism between two most revered “Teertha Sthals” of India, but will also connect J&K directly with Northeast.

8. Man gets 366 flag tattoos for Guinness record

Har Parkash Rishi (74-years) is an Indian man who holds the Guinness World Record for having the maximum number of flags (366) tattooed on his body.
Earlier, he had all his teeth removed so he could fit nearly 500 straws and over 50 burning candles in his mouth.
Rishi, who claims to have set more than 20 records, now calls himself Guinness Rishi.
He born in 1942 in a cinema hall in the capital, New Delhi.
Rishi first got into the Guinness Book of World Records in 1990 when, with two friends, he rode a scooter for 1,001 hours.

9.Weir sets world record in 1-mile wheelchair race

Six-time Paralympic gold medal-winning British wheelchair racer, David Weir became the first wheelchair racer to complete a mile-long race (approximately 1.6 kilometers) in under three minutes.
Weir recorded a time of two minutes and 57 seconds to beat his own previous world record timing by a six-second margin.

10. Actor Suresh Chatwal passes away in Mumbai

Veteran film and television actor Suresh Chatwal has passed away in Mumbai.
Chatwal, who made his debut with the 1969 film 'Rakhi Rakhi', worked in several Bollywood films including 'Karan Arjun', 'Munna Bhai MBBS' and 'Om Shanti Om'.
He was last seen on the big screen in "Nakshatra" in 2010.
Chatwal also worked in television and is known for playing the role of Dhukhiya in Doordarshan's 'Nukkad'.
Suresh was last working on the popular comedy show "F.I.R." which airs on SAB TV.

Three-time world champion Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes has won the Formula One season Monaco Grand Prix for the first time.

12. Discus thrower Seema Punia qualifies for Rio Olympics

Asian Games discus throw gold medal winner Seema Punia (32- years) has qualified for the Rio Olympics with a 62.62 meters effort at the Pat Young's Throwers Classic 2016 at Salinas (California) in the United States.
Punia crossed the Rio Games qualification standard of 61 meters with her season's best effort of 62.62 meters.
This will be Seema's third Olympic Games appearance having taken part in 2004 and 2012 where she failed to get past the qualification round on both the occasions.
She is the 19th Indian track and field athlete to have qualified for Rio Olympics.
