              200TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF VIDYASAGAR

Katwa, Sept 27: Yesterday the 200th birth anniversary of Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was celebrated in Panchpara High Madrasah with great enthusiasm. In this regard, a statue of Vidyasagar was set up in the school premises. A temporary stage was also set up for the programme. In the presence of all the students and school staffs, the invited chief guest renowned writer ABC presided over the whole programme and he started the programme with enlightening earthen lamp. Then the Headmaster Sri PQR garlanded the statue of Vidyasagar followed by the teachers and students. Then few gave short speech on how Vidyasagar took initiatives to stop child marriage, to introduce widow marriage. Besides, students performed dance, recitation, sang patriotic songs and also staged a short drama on the life of Vidyasagar. At last our chief guest delivered his important short speech on how Vidyasagar reformed our society and how he spread education among women and girls. The programme ended with national anthem at 2 p.m.
